Cabo Pulmo: A Hidden Gem for Divers
Cabo Pulmo is one of the most extraordinary diving destinations in the world—a place every passionate diver should experience at least once. When I learned I would be traveling to the Sea of Cortez, diving in Cabo Pulmo was at the top of my list. However, I was initially disappointed to hear that the season of my visit was typically unfavorable for diving there, with poor visibility and water conditions.
Still, we decided to keep one day open, just in case. Luckily, during our stay, we were told that the sea conditions had improved. Without hesitation, we set off for Cabo Pulmo and managed to fit in two unforgettable dives.
What makes Cabo Pulmo truly special is the abundance and diversity of marine life. Massive shoals of jackfish, snappers drift gracefully through the water, cow nose rays swimming in huge shoals or stingrays glide across the sandy bottom. For the first time in my life, I witnessed an incredible aggregation of pufferfish—a rare and beautiful sight. If you're lucky, you might even encounter bull sharks in the area.
The local reef is equally impressive, teeming with vibrant life and color. We had just started exploring the reef when, to our amazement, a massive school of jacks appeared above us—an awe-inspiring and emotional moment. Watching them move in perfect unison, completely unbothered by our presence, was truly unforgettable.
Our adventure didn't begin underwater. On our way to the dive site, we were treated to a breathtaking encounter with humpback whales. Some swam remarkably close to our boat, while others breached and showed off their tails as they dived into the depths.
Cabo Pulmo is a dream for divers. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a passionate enthusiast, witnessing the marine life here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s not just a destination—it’s a must!
