Underwater photography is a popular diving specialty. Many divers enjoy making photographs of marine life, shipwrecks, or underwater geological features such as cave systems. Various categories of underwater photography have developed, such as wide angle, macro or super-macro. One of the more interesting specialties is fashion photography, a practice that requires a lot of preparation.

After having dived in plenty of spots around the world, I am always on the lookout for unusual destinations with unusual dives. It goes without saying that diving in the Dead Sea is not commonly found on the list of classic dives, and that’s what attracted me to it. The inland sea is 426.5 meters below sea level. It is the deepest place on Earth.

The source of the Rio Negro (Black River) in Colombia, continuing its journey to Brazil, through the rich Amazonian forest. Here it converges with the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon. From afar, the Rio Negro appears to be black but from a closer look, it is actually dark brown. This dark color is due to the humic acid which forms due to the incomplete decomposition of the phenol contained in the vegetation of the sandy clearings.
